The Holy
Feminist
                  Bible

I find it difficult to reconcile two parts of myself that are so essential to who I am but seemingly cannot intermix.

As both a Christian and someone who wholely supports gender equality, racial equity, queer love, the right to choose, and what feels to be everything the church opposes these days, this piece is the culmination of many parts of me. It's an exploration of two opposing beliefs coming together without one negating the legitimacy or value of the other. Feminism and Christianity aren't intrinsically like oil & water.

Through this body of work, I wanted to highlight the women of the Bible, particularly those that are mentioned by name in chapter headers. There aren’t as many as I would have hoped to find. This piece includes twenty spreads and utilizes collage material from "secular" magazines, which are placed in congruence with Biblical text. This combination, and seeming juxtaposition, of visual content also refers to female representation in visual media and how the female form is sexualized, reduced, and objectified in a modern context.

Unfortunately,

"Feminist" Is a Four-Letter-Word

to most christians

The God I love loves the poor, heals the sick, feeds the hungry, and loves the single mothers.

I refuse to see The Bible used to justify bigotry and the spread of hate.

Also, The word "Homosexuality" was not in the Bible until 1946.
